the diy show/Call to Artists

the diy show

“Exhibitions are a coproductive, spatial medium, resulting from various forms of negotiation, relationality, adaptation, and collaboration between subjects and objects, across space and time.”   some la-di-da curator

rough translation: people make exhibitions together using objects. they exist in space and time.

diy as a subculture could be said to have begun with the punk movement of the 1970s. it offers an alternative to modern consumer culture‘s emphasis on relying on trained professionals. the diy ethic promotes the idea that anyone is capable of performing a variety of tasks rather than relying on paid specialists. We thought we would apply this to curating.

a self-curated exhibit sounded like an interesting experiment. the idea of people making exhibitions together using objects that exist in space and time is very down to earth. enough of that highfalutin curating stuff.

we will open our spacious well- lit gallery for you to have the opportunity to be both artist and curator. by deciding where and how your work is installed, you get to choose the context in which your work is viewed. a collectively curated exhibit! for the people by the people. we welcome collaborative works, installations, performances, interventions, and new media! if we missed anything please just make arrangements to make it happen.

if you are interested in participating then please bring your work, ready to hang, to wca during the times listed below.
